Lashes. For a song.
In June 2026, an Iranian court sentenced singer Parastoo Ahmadi and eight of her collaborators to 74 lashes and a two-year ban on making music — for a concert she sang without a hijab, her voice carrying alone across an empty caravanserai. A court called her voice a crime.
They sentenced one woman for singing. We answer with a stage full of them.
For Parastoo Ahmadi · For the eight beside her · For every voice they tried to silence
The sentence was for a song. The silencing never stops at song.
It polices what a woman sings, what she says on a stage, even how loudly she laughs. So the answer grew to match: one stage where every register of an Iranian woman's voice comes back — in music, in comedy, in celebration.
Once policed. Now, the program.
A woman's solo voice in public was censored for decades.
Live music — Iranian women singers, across generations.
What a woman may say on a stage has been policed just as long.
Stand-up — Iranian women comics, holding the mic and the room.
Dancing in the open has gotten Iranians arrested.
A Persian DJ takes it late — the whole room moves.
Every night has its own lineup · The first goes to the list first
This is what freedom sounds like.
Woman, Life, Freedom showed the world that Iranian women are not waiting for permission.
SEDA is a home for Iranian women's voices in arts and culture — honoring the artists who carried them across decades and exile, and handing the stage to the voices rising now. The first night answers a sentence. The series keeps the promise: these voices belong in public.
For decades, women's voices — in song and on stage — have been restricted in Iran. SEDA is a standing answer.
You don't have to agree on Iran's future to sing along with its women.
Not a party. Not a crown.
Not a foreign government. Not a war.
In every other sense, it's a party. The stage belongs to the artists.
